Biographies
Peter Gizzi is an American poet, editor, and critic. His recent books include, Now It’s Dark (Wesleyan, 2020), Sky Burial: New and Selected Poems (Carcanet, 2020), and Archeophonics (Finalist for the National Book Award, Wesleyan, 2016). He has several books in French, most recently, L’Externationale, Chansons de Seuil, and Archeophonie, all translated by the poet Stéphane Bouquet and published by Editions Corti. His editing projects have included o•blēk: a journal of language arts (1987-1993); The Exact Change Yearbook (Exact Change/Carcanet, 1995); The House That Jack Built: The Collected Lectures of Jack Spicer (Wesleyan, 1998); and with the late Kevin Kilian, My Vocabulary Did This to Me: The Collected Poetry of Jack Spicer (Wesleyan, 2008). His honors include the Lavan Younger Poet Award from the Academy of American Poets, and fellowships from The Rex Foundation, The Howard Foundation, The Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and The John Guggenheim Foundation. He has held residencies at The MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, The Foundation of French Literature at Royaumont, Un Bureau Sur L’Atlantique, the Centre International de Poesie Marseille (cipM), and Tamaas. He has twice been the recipient of The Judith E. Wilson Visiting Fellowship in Poetry at the University of Cambridge. Stéphane Bouquet a publié plusieurs livres de poésie ou autour de la poésie (Les derniers en date, Vie commune et Le Fait de vivre, Champ Vallon, 2016 et 2021, et La Cité de Paroles, Corti, 2018). Il est aussi l’auteur de quelques récits (dont Agnès & ses sourires, Post-éditions, 2018)
Il a proposé une traduction de divers poètes américains, de tendance à la fois lyrique et urbaine, dont Paul Blackburn, James Schuyler et trois livres de Peter Gizzi. Un quatrième est à paraître chez José Corti.
