Tan Lin is the author of over 12 books. His publications include 7 Controlled Vocabularies and Obituary. 2004. The Joy of Cooking (Wesleyan University Press), and Insomnia and the Aunt (Kenning Editions). His articles on post-war art and contemporary poetics have appeared in Criticism and boundary2. He is the recipient of a 2012 Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant for Poetry, a Getty Distinguished Scholar Grant for 2004-2005 and a Warhol Foundation/Creative Capital Arts Writing Grant. 7 Controlled Vocabularies won the Association for Asian American Studies Award for Poetry/Literature in 2012. His novel, Our Feelings Were Made By Hand, is coming out in 2025 with Coffee House Press.
Lin’s video, and film works have screened at Artists Space, Performa, Marianne Boesky Gallery, Yale Art Museum, MoMA/PS 1, the Ontological Hysterical Theatre, and the Whitney Museum. A solo exhibition of his work was held at Treize Gallery Paris in 2017. He was as the Visiting Literary Arts Digital Writer at Brown University in 2018. He received a Ph.D from Columbia University. He currently teaches at Columbia University and New Jersey City University.
Depuis Dans la tour (P.O.L, 1984) jusqu’à Quelque membre de notre Cercle (P.O.L, 2021), en plus de vingt livres chez le même éditeur, et en attendant les suivants, Danielle Mémoire semble poursuivre un seul grand ouvrage de prose — « un cercle qu’un soupçon dessine » — en miroir, qui contiendrait, parmi les multiples récits abordés, le récit même de l’auteur écrivant ses livres, les commentant à l’infini, pensant même à son lecteur symétrique. Depuis 1999, ces livres se présentent comme les parties d’un « Corpus », entité aux multiples auteurs et personnages, poursuivant en abyme l’architecture littérale d’une fiction ; celle d’écrire, réellement, les livres magistraux de Danielle Mémoire.
