Biographies
Anne Portugal, poète et traductrice, a publié une quinzaine de livres, dont la plupart aux éditions P.O.L., De quoi faire un mur , Le plus simple appareil, définitif bob , la formule flirt , et comment nous voilà moins épais et s&lfies. Elle a traduit, de Stacy Doris Paramour (P.O.L.) avec Caroline Dubois et Mue (P.O.L.) avec Pierre Alferi, et avec Abigail Lang et Vincent Broqua L’anglais mêlé (Presses du réel) de Caroline Bergvall. Elle a traduit les sonnetssonnants d’Andrew Zawacki (joca seria). Dernière parution en 2025, en collaboration avec Vincent Broqua et là je me mets en danseuse (les cahiers de la Seine). Elle s’intéresse à la syntaxe, ou plus précisément à la « fantaxe », selon Alferi, et s’amuse, par effets de déliaison, de sauts, d’accélération et de ralentissement, à déconstruire les lieux communs de la poésie qu’elle définit comme « un art de ne pas y toucher ».
Anne Portugal is a poet and a translator. She published about fifteen books, whose major part at P.O.L. Le plus simple appareil was translated par Norma Cole in Nude, at Kelsey St. Press, définitif bob was translated par Jennifer Moxley in absolute bob at Burning Desk, Voyez en l’air was translated by Rosmarie Waldrop in Quisite moment at Burning Desk, la formule flirt was translated by Jean-Jacques Poucel in flirt formula at the Presse, and in Summer 2026 Fichier was tranlated by Léon Pradeau in my domestic robots at The year.
Léon Pradeau is a French writer and translator living in the United States. He is the founding editor of Transat’, a journal of poetry and poetics in French and English. Most of his poems are written in both languages. His first book, vaisseau instantané/instant shipping, was published by Les murmurations in 2024. Three of his translations into English came out in 2026: Cécile Mainardi’s Superliquid Water from PRROBLEM Press (translated w/ cj nizard), Tancrède Rivière’s In the House / In the Abstract from Selva Oscura (translated w/ Kai Ihns), and Anne Portugal’s My Domestic Robots from The Year. When he isn’t waving at canada geese or making evanescent book objects, Léon is a post-doctorate lecturer at The University of Chicago.
Andrew Zawacki is the author of six poetry books: These Late Eclipses (Verge, 2025), Unsun: f/11 (Coach House, 2019), Videotape(Counterpath, 2013), Petals of Zero Petals of One (Talisman House, 2009), Anabranch (Wesleyan, 2004), and By Reason of Breakings (Georgia, 2002). Last year, Photoworks UK released Endscape, a book of poetry and photography. His poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The New Republic, The Nation, and other international journals, as well as the anthologies The Eloquent Poem (Persea), Legitimate Dangers: American Poets of the New Century (Sarabande), Walt Whitman hom(m)age (Turtle Point), The Iowa Anthology of New American Poetries (Iowa), and Great American Prose Poems: From Poe to the Present (Scribner). In addition, he has published four books in France: Sonnetssonnants, translated by Anne Portugal; Georgia and Carnet Bartleby, both translated by Sika Fakambi; and Par Raison de brisants, translated by Antoine Cazé and a finalist for the Prix Nelly Sachs. His translation of Sébastien Smirou, My Lorenzo (Burning Deck), received a French Voices Grant, and his translation of Smirou’s See About (La Presse) earned an NEA Translation Fellowship and a fellowship from the Centre National du Livre. A former fellow of the Slovenian Writers’ Association, he edited Afterwards: Slovenian Writing 1945-1995 (White Pine) and edited and co-translated Aleš Debeljak’s Without Anesthesia: New & Selected Poems (Persea). Coeditor of the international journal Verse from 1995 through 2019, he coedited The Verse Book of Interviews and Gustaf Sobin’s collected and uncollected poems. A 2016 Howard Foundation Fellow in Poetry, Zawacki is Distinguished Research Professor of English at the University of Georgia.
